Studying HSC English @ CHS
Cessnock High School boasts a modern and innovative approach
to the delivery of the Higher School Certificate (HSC). Our students complete
three HSC subjects each year for two consecutive years, instead of completing
six subjects over a two year period. This is known as the College System.
The College System allows our students to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge in their selected subjects, a clearer focus on their studies and also diminished exam stress as exams are spread over two years. To be eligible for an HSC in NSW every student must complete English as an HSC course. This can be done in College 1 (year 11) or College 2 (year 12).
In English at Cessnock High School we offer two Board Developed English courses and one Board Endorsed English course. Your child will select the most appropriate course of study in English in consultation with the English staff approximately midway through Year 10.
